Franklin is BUSY this week ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’Œ

Hello, my dear Frankies!

Iโ€™m back in Franklin after our trip, and Iโ€™m SO excited to get out and visit all our favourite places again โ™ฅ

And it feels like weโ€™ve come home at exactly the right time because there is so much happening!

Winter can sometimes feel loooong and never-ending, so I love that suddenly there are all these little reasons to get out of the house and do something super fun. This week alone thereโ€™s coffee cupping, wine pairing nights, cupcake bouquet decorating, origami workshops, run clubs, sewing circles, nervous system resets and heaps more.

Seriously, donโ€™t skip the events list this week because there are some goodies in there.

I also loved getting to know Lauren Short, whoโ€™s behind the new Movement East Physio clinic in Drury South.

Drury is one of those places that seems to look different every single time you drive through it. And with so many new people moving into Drury and the surrounding Franklin communities, we need local businesses growing alongside them too. Health professionals, cafรฉs, shops and services that help turn all those new developments into an actual community.

Lauren and her team are getting in nice and early, and I loved hearing about what theyโ€™re already doing to support the people around them โ™ฅ

So have a read, go give them a follow on Instagram, and make sure you check out the very lovely special theyโ€™ve put together for Frankie readers too!

And Iโ€™ll see ya out there!

R. and the Frankie team xx

Meet Lauren - the woman helping keep Drury moving ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผโ™ฅ๏ธ

If there was ever a good week to finally do something about that dodgy knee, sore shoulder or mysterious back niggle youโ€™ve been ignoring, this is it.

โ€‹Movement East is a relatively new physio clinic tucked into Drury South, and owner Lauren Short has given Dear Frankie readers a pretty incredible excuse to go and meet them:

Mention Dear Frankie when you book your first appointment and youโ€™ll get 50% off.

Yep. Half price.

But before we get to that, letโ€™s meet the woman behind the clinic.

MEET LAUREN

Thereโ€™s a new physio clinic in Drury South, and owner Lauren Short is building it around a pretty simple idea: helping local people move well, recover properly and keep doing the things they love.

Lauren is a senior physiotherapist with more than 12 yearsโ€™ experience, postgraduate qualifications in acupuncture and dry needling, and years of experience both treating clients and running a physiotherapy business.

Now, sheโ€™s brought all of that experience closer to home with Movement East: Drury South Performance Physiotherapy.โ€‹

BUILDING SOMETHING LOCAL

For Lauren, opening in Drury South means becoming part of a community thatโ€™s growing incredibly quickly, while still having that very Franklin feeling of local businesses supporting local people.

And Movement East is already getting stuck in โ™ฅ

The clinic has created partnerships with Bombay School, South Auckland Run Club, Hybrid, Empire and District 52, offering reduced physiotherapy rates to people within those communities.

Itโ€™s a lovely start for a relatively new business, and exactly the kind of thing we love to see: a local owner building relationships around them, rather than simply opening the doors and waiting for people to walk in.

PHYSIO FOR REAL LIFE

Despite the โ€œperformanceโ€ in the name, you definitely donโ€™t need to be an elite athlete to see Lauren and the team.

Performance might mean getting back onto the rugby field or improving your running. But it can just as easily mean being able to train at the gym, work without pain, garden all weekend or keep up with the kids.

Movement East offers physiotherapy and rehabilitation alongside massage, acupuncture, dry needling, cupping, sports testing and joint mobilisation, with ACC claims able to be lodged directly through the clinic.

Thereโ€™s also their Physical WOF, which looks at things like movement, strength and imbalances to give you a clearer picture of how your body is functioning and where a little extra work might help.

The goal isnโ€™t simply to get you through an injury. Itโ€™s to help you get back to feeling strong, capable and confident in your body again.

A VERY GOOD FRANKIE SPECIAL ๐Ÿ‘€

And Lauren has something rather lovely for Dear Frankie readers.

๐Ÿ’Œ Mention Dear Frankie when booking your first appointment with Movement East and youโ€™ll receive 50% OFF your first booking.

So if thereโ€™s a knee, shoulder, back, ankle or other mysterious body part youโ€™ve been meaning to have looked at, consider this your sign.

Youโ€™ll find Lauren and the Movement East team at 12/27 Toiawaka Road, Drury, with appointments available throughout the week.

Book in, tell them Frankie sent you, and go and support one of Drury Southโ€™s newest local businesses while youโ€™re there. โ™ฅ

Want a warmer home, a smaller power bill, less food waste or just a few easy ways to live a little more sustainably?

โ€‹Waiuku Zero Wasteโ€™s Healthy Home, Healthy Planet Expo is coming to Pukeoware Hall on Sunday 23 August, and itโ€™s completely FREE.

The day brings together local organisations, businesses and experts with practical ideas you can actually use at home. You can chat to groups including Bike Pukekohe, Love Food Hate Waste, The Compost Collective, Franklin Trails, Lightforce Solar, Trโ€‹ead Lightly Caravan, Blackbarn Insulation and more, covering everything from warmer, more energy-efficient homes to composting, food waste, walking and cycling!

And we especially love the philosophy behind it: nobody is expecting you to completely overhaul your life overnight. The idea is to show how small, achievable changes can save money, create healthier homes and build a more resilient community.

โ€‹Waiuku Zero Waste already does plenty of this work year-round through local repair, reuse and education initiatives, so this is a great chance to find out what help and resources are available right here in our own backyard.

Hello, my dear Frankies! This week we have such a cool story about a bunch of young Franklin locals who have been working ridiculously hard behind the scenes. The dancers from Groovit Dance Studios are only 12โ€“18 years old, but some of them are training six hours a week (and even more as competitions get closer!) getting ready for a pretty huge opportunity: heading over to the Gold Coast to compete. We all love seeing young people find something theyโ€™re passionate about, dream big, and then...

Hello, my dear Frankies! Spring is properly here! Weโ€™ve had some beautiful sunny days this week - and a few pretty awful ones too, but I suppose thatโ€™s spring for you. You probably know by now that some of my favourite stories are about locals building lives that really suit them. Changing careers, trying something new, following a cool business idea, and finding a way to make work, family and fun all fit together! So I loved chatting with Amy Melville this week. Sheโ€™s Head of Property at...

Hello, my dear Frankies! ๐ŸŒผ Itโ€™s September! Spring! And all the beautiful things that come with it โ™ฅ Although terrifyingly, weโ€™re also already two-thirds of the way through the year! September also brings International Literacy Day on 8 September, and hereโ€™s a statistic that really stopped me in my tracks: around one in four New Zealand adults aged 16โ€“65 have low literacy proficiency. Because think about how much reading and writing sneaks into our everyday lives. Filling in forms. Applying...
